COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

Dear Friends,
A quick reminder that I’m now offering two ways to access my Messages.
The first – as before – is the printed word (included below).
The second is as a short video (today’s runs 6 minutes).
To access the video just click on  https://youtu.be/Injf4ag472I  and I’ll share my truths in person with you.

A famous hymn carries the refrain:

“Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done”.

These times are fraught with concern and worry for many people.

Wars, the economy, interest rates, housing availability, jobs, wages and pensions, power and fuel bills, home invasions, car hijacks – there seems to be so many issues confronting everyone these days….

How to handle the traumas and troubles of life?

One important answer is to focus on one’s blessings.

That’s because life isn’t all negative!

There’s far more to be positive about – if we remember to be positive!

Mahatma Gandhi once said:

“A man is but a product of his thoughts. What he thinks he becomes.”

Since I first heard this, I have almost always replied to the courteous greeting “How are you?” with “Excellent thankyou! But getting better!”.

And, true to form, I have continued to generally be in excellent health.

I can equally attest that a friend, when asked how he is, always replies with “Not good” and, true to form, his life isn’t the best……

The Power of the Positive easily outweighs the negative – but only if we let it, allow it, emphasise and encourage it!

And we best encourage it by counting our every blessing every day.

Three easy ways to embrace you blessings include:

1.    Having a competition with your partner/house-mate to see who can list the most (new) blessings each morning…..

2.    Journalling one new blessing every day for six months……

3.    Listing 33 blessings on a coloured board you hang in your bathroom and reading it out loud/with feeling every morning and evening.

Then, after 33 days, you create a new list…….and repeat the exercise.

I REMEMBER hearing Norman Vincent Peale, famous author of “The Power Of Positive Thinking” speaking to his New York church congregation and telling them “if you don’t have at least six doozy problems right now, leave this service immediately! Go straight home, go into your room, close the door, kneel by your bed, join your two hands together and ask the Lord “What’s wrong, Lord? Don’t you trust me anymore…..?”.

Norman was certain that a positive attitude, regardless of the situation, was the answer. He felt that if we trusted the Divine we would make the very most of every precious, priceless moment we are given.

We simply wouldn’t have time to be negative.

We’d be too busy appreciating our bountiful blessings…..

My final quote (by Charles Swindoll) sums the matter up perfectly:

“Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”

How you react and respond to life is entirely up to you…..

So, how does your own speech reflect your positive thoughts?

How do your actions mirror your positive approach to life?

How do your positive thoughts enhance your life?

What limits you having more positive thoughts?

What could you achieve if you had only positive thoughts?

So remember:

Count your many blessings, see what God hath done”.

Bountiful Blessings!

Peace Be Within You!

Les

WHAT EXACTLY IS LOVE?

We all talk about it, all seek it, all obsess over it – but what is it?   Let’s start by being clear about what it isn’t….. It isn’t sex. It isn’t ego satisfaction. It isn’t mere attraction. It isn’t an obligation. It isn’t the genetic impulse to have children. It isn’t a euphoric feeling

DO YOU THINK LIFE IS SOMETIMES TOO HARD ?

When the Roman army marched into England in 43 AD its soldiers (and their female helpers) walked over 2,500kms fully laden just to get there. There were no planes, trains or motorcars. When Genghis Khan, the Mongolian ruler of China took his warriors (and often, their women) west, conquering the lands he crossed as he

DO YOU THINK YOU ARE NECESSARY?

Sebastian Junger wrote in his book Tribe: “Society has perfected the art of making people not feel necessary.“   Think about that for a moment…… Do you sometimes think you’re an unnecessary add-on? Do you sometimes feel you’re expendable? That it wouldn’t matter if you didn’t exist? Stop reading now if you think you’re worthwhile.

ONE MAN(KIND)

Imagine one Being. Standing. Naked. Arms outstretched. Legs apart, perfectly balanced. Sexual gender ambivalent Totally at peace. Content. Complete. Fulfilled. Now zoom in closer. 100 trillion cells compose the body….. 100 trillion atoms compose just one cell…… Protons, neutrons and electrons compose each and every atom….. There’s also many many trillions of light rays (photons)

I STILL REMEMBER YOU….

Before this week’s article, I’d like to take a moment to directly THANK YOU for being part of my (and Trudi’s) wider family. We may meet rarely, if at all (you may not even reply to my emails) but you are still a beloved part of our spiritual family,,,,and life would be less satisfying without

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY……?

A beautiful writer, Terri St Cloud wrote : “If (after death) I’m asked what I did with my life I want to be able to say “I offered Love”…… What would you say? For some I’m sure the answer would be “made a lot of money” or “had some great jobs” or “visited some amazing

ME, MYSELF AND I……

The American Psychological Association researched how truly comfortable people were with themselves. They asked a mixed cohort of people to make a choice to either sit comfortably alone with their private thoughts for fifteen minutes OR give themselves electric shocks. 67 percent of men chose electric shocks. 25 percent of women chose to zap themselves

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU GET BUT WHAT YOU’VE GOT

Here’s one of my favourite jokes that I often tell in workshops…..   There was a very rich man (Mr Smith) who prayed to St Peter incessantly asking if he could take his money with him when he went to heaven. St Peter kept saying no – you just come as yourself, naked – but

THE TALE OF FOUR ROCKS

I’d like to start the new year with a story that is both simple and yet can also be life-changing, if we really own its truth…..! I am not the author and I apologise for not being able to tell you who wrote it, other than that they are American. A 10 or 11 year-old

A NEW YEAR – A NEW AWAKENING

Welcome to the new year! Actually every day is the start of a new year. And at a planetary level every moment is both brand new and totally ageless. Late last year I mentioned that “we are all aspects of the Divine” and also that “we are each born as a Messenger of God”. I

HAPPY CHRIST MASS!

(Trudi’s yummy nut-loaf alternative to eating animals at Christmas is at the bottom of this article!! It’s de-lic-ious!!!!) Next Monday is the day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Jesus, for us, is a great messenger of Divine truths. For some people, he IS the Divine in human form. Whatever your beliefs, he

STARTING SMALL – Part 2

In today’s hectic world, even at Christmas, many people live much of their time in a ‘fight or flight’ zone. Neighbours, relatives, finances, home issues, work issues – even time off – can trigger distressing moments and pent-up trauma. A great number of people have trouble relaxing and simply enjoying the moment. (It’s one of

STARTING SMALL ….

In today’s rather chaotic and upsetting world, how do we start changing our lives from some level of quiet desperation or distress into a richer level of deep contentment and certainty? A mental health professional (who is also a dear friend and has been a subscriber for the last 30 years) recently wrote to me

ACC-ENT-UATE THE POSITIVE

In 1944 Johnny Mercer wrote for Bing Crosby…. You’ve got to ac-cent-tchu-ate the positive E-lim-i-nate the negative Latch on to the affirmative Don’t mess with Mr. In-between It was an instant hit and everyone sang it. Problem is that very few people truly understood it…… You see, being negative comes natural to people. Yes, everyone

THE WARDROBE ORGANISER

A regular correspondent recently asked me: “Why is it so hard for so many people to recognise and respect their divinity?” Another included in her reply…. “I still struggle to understand why (leaders)  continue to be so hell bent on war and coercive control?”. My answer to these dilemmas may hopefully help others, too….. All

PEACE IS THE ANSWER

I do all I can to stay out of politics. I am a Spiritual Guide. So this is about as political as I get……. Peace is the natural behaviour of every sentient being. Everything else is insanity. That is obvious (and if it isn’t my point is proven). Peace is the only effective, loving, constructive,

REQUIEM FOR ALL OF US

Requiem is a latin word that means “rest”. Its most common use today is as a Catholic mass. But it also means any act of commemoration for those that have ‘passed over’. As such, at a time such as the world is experiencing now, it becomes relevant. For most of us, the horrors of war
