In 1956 Porter Wagoner wrote a very clever poem called “If Jesus Came To Your House”.
A few of the lines included:
Would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in?
Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you planned to go?
Or maybe would you change your plans, for just a day or so?
Would you be glad for him to meet your very closest friends?
Or hope that they’d stay away, at least until his visit ends?
Maybe we could ask a question that’s even closer to home…
“What if my body actually belongs to God?”
How would you treat your body?
How would you care for it?
What would you feed it?
How would you exercise it?
Where would you take it?
Who would you introduce it to?
How would you deeply respect it?
What would you do to maintain it in good condition?
Importantly, how would you show gratitude for the use of it?
And even more importantly……
How might knowing that your body belonged to God change your life?
These aren’t silly questions to waste your time: they’re very valid because your body does belong to God.
Let’s be honest: you didn’t make your body. Nor did your parents.
Nor did the government. Nor did your church (if you have one).
Nor did a simple bunch of passing particles get together and say “Hey! I’ve got a great idea! Why don’t we make a person……”
Your body belongs to God.
That includes all of your body – including the rattles in your head.
You’re just using it to enjoy the miraculous gift of experience!
So how do you truly give thanks for this awesome gift?
And how do you – and will you – look after this amazing gift for as long as it’s in your care and for your use?
See yourself as your body’s Caretaker: Care for it.
And make sure you make the most of this extraordinary opportunity!
We all have to give it back one day so it can be refurbished and ready for our next hire…….
Love and Blessings,
Les
