A LOVE BY ANY OTHER NAME…..

There are probably billions of people who can’t stand the word ‘God’.

Others are passionately opposed to the term ‘Allah’.

‘Jehovah’ gets bad publicity from many quarters.

Brahma, Vishnu, Siva remain quite localised – and Buddha and Krishna remain Teachers well below Jesus in the ‘divinity stakes’……

And then, of course, there’s the historical giants such as  Jupiter, Venus, Neptune, Woden, Thor, Elohim and the like….

They’re all just names and personalities directing us to the Nameless One.

Once, at a weekend program I spoke about God saying “He…..” and was abruptly Interrupted by a lady who complained I was being misogynistic.

So I swapped to ‘Goddess’ and was quickly pulled up for being feminist.

Not to be deterred I changed tack and named the Divine ‘George’.

No luck. A feminist swooped immediately so I swerved hoping to avoid her rage by re-naming the Eternal ‘Georgina’……..

Nothing seemed to satisfy everyone.

Indeed nations have often gone to war to defend “their” God.

And the adherents of every religion are known to have persecuted their own people for breaches of the authorised form of address and acknowledgement of their specific characteristics.

Great Spirit, the Divine, the Infinite and Eternal, the Light Of The World, God The Father, The Creator, the Logos, The Prince Of Peace has no name.

For The First Cause isn’t a person.

The Deity is Pure Energy.

And that Pure Energy expresses Itself as Pure Love.

Instead of objecting to any of the names, we  – and our entire society – would surely benefit if we simply embraced Its Energy: Love.

Embraced it, engulfed it, expressed it, lived it, cherished it and loved it.

Call it what you will.

At the end of the day, Its names also include: Pete, Harry, Margaret, Diane, Wolfgang, Nasrudin, Bridgitte, Josef, Sean, Karim, Amal, Fumiko, Genji, George, Kannika, Rahul, Arjun, Li Na, Wang Wei, Adahe and Astrid – amongst others…….

That’s because every one of us is an aspect of that Love.

‘A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet’ wrote Shakespeare.

What matters is what something is, not what it is called.

And the Nameless One is Love.

We surely need to focus far less on what we call “IT” – and far more on how we live authentically in “ITs”  unifying, healing and intertwined energy.
