GOOD LUCK

In my most recent article the last four words were: Loving Unconditioned Compassion and Kindness.
I wonder how many of you realized those four words spelt out L.U.C.K?

Two hundred years ago Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States of America, wrote: ‘I’m a great believer in luck: and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it”. I imagine President Trump and his administration shares this view.

Two thousand years ago Seneca the Younger, a Roman statesman, wrote: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. I imagine Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa would have shared this view.

What’s your view?

All it requires is less attention on our own ‘first world’ needs – and more attention on the real – and rapidly worsening – needs of this world!

I believe both views are valuable today, especially if we hitch them to our own acronym LUCK is Loving Unconditioned Compassion and Kindness.

What does this mean for us in real life?

For Trudi and myself it means living our lives in this significantly hurting, selfish and violent world from a place of love, compassion and kindness. That doesn’t mean we can fix the problems. But it does mean that we act – as best we can – in ways that don’t worsen the problem and – again, as best we can – help to repair the problems. By doing so, we become active players in the healing of society rather than active players in its demise.

Some examples, for us, are not eating meat and radically cutting back on dairy (both because of immense cruelty to animals); encouraging the support of charities that help repair treatable blindness or try to protect helpless children, unwanted refugees and endangered animals; and using Heartland – as best we can – to help people heal, empower themselves, connect to Spirit and overcome loss, grief, hurt, guilt, shame, depression, illness, etc.

Have we had good luck?

Well, we’re still here – even though our prices are half to a quarter that of most commercial operators! So that must be in large measure good l.u.c.k!

Maybe you can gain greater l.u.c.k yourself by thinking up more ways to help the animals, the earth or our fellow humans who are all doing it tough in a world that’s getting worse…..?
