Last article I asked: “Are you living the life you have chosen – or are you just trying to combat everything the world seems to throw at you?”.
I went on to explain that if a thought hurts or limits us we can always choose to have another more helpful thought. But how exactly do we make that change from one thought to another?
Here’s an easy way…..
1. Affirm the thought we have
2. Consciously choose another more beneficial thought about the same topic; and – whilst fully maintaining focus on this new thought……
3. Undertake a different positive activity.
For example, let’s say we’re upset about something a relative or friend said or did – and we can’t let it go.
1. We fully affirm our upset and the reason for it
2. We consciously choose another nicer way to think about our friend or relative; and – whilst fully maintaining focus on this new thought……
3. We go for a 20 minute walk.
Another example: let’s say we’re negative about ourself and our prospects…….
1. We fully affirm our negative thoughts about ourself
2. We consciously choose to think about aspects of our life which are priceless (these may be our breath, our sight, our body, our family, our country, etc); and – whilst fully maintaining focus on this new thought…….
3. We write in our Gratitude Journal our thanks for something about today.
A third example: let’s say we’re dissatisfied with the way our life is going and we want it to change…….
1. We fully affirm our life as it is……
2. We envision our new life and give thanks that the Universe is moving us toward our desired vision; and – whilst fully maintaining focus on this new thought/vision……
3. We breathe deeply 50 times.
Of course, things won’t necessarily change the first or second time we undertake this exercise – but they will if we stay persistent, focused and determined.
But how to stay focussed in spite of our negative thoughts?
This is where our authentic spirituality offers us one of its greatest gifts: self-worth.
Belief in our inherent self-worth will always give us the energy and strength to face our negative thoughts and replace them with thoughts leading to greater self-empowerment.
After all, as spiritual beings battling less than perfect lives it’s helpful to constantly remind ourselves of our inner Light and Lovingness!
Be my guest and try this exercise this week!
Let me know how it changes your thinking, as it has mine!
More in a fortnight,
Blessings and hugs,
